Most often, and we hate to admit it, but there is violence in the home (sin in the camp). There is violence and many kinds of abuse among husband and wives, and other family members. Children even get caught up in the violence and abuse. It’s globally in nature. In every nation, culture, ethnicity on this earth there is domestic violence and abuse of some form.
What is Domestic Violence?
Domestic violence also called intimate partner violence (IPV) domestic abuse or relationship is the willful intimidation, physical assault, and battery perpetrated by an intimate partner against another. Domestic violence/abuse is an over-arching term for brutality. It is an escalating pattern of abuse where one partner in an intimate relationship controls the other through, intimidation or the threat of violence.
Abuse comes in many forms.
Physical: kicking, punching, shoving, slapping (open palm) punching closed fist, or other acts to the body. DV can result in physical death.
Verbal abuse: name calling, threats put down.
Emotional/Psychological: Assaults against your self-esteem, self-worth, intimidation, refusing to allow partner to see loved ones, isolation; fear of deportation to control you. Non-communication, acting as if the person does not exist. Psychological threats: punching the wall, kicking/or hurting animals.
Sexual violence: forcing a partner to take part in a sex act when partner does not consent including (male or female).
Financial: controlling all the monies, threatening your economic status and basic needs. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
